Kwun Tong Garden Estate Documentation

This project presents a hand-drawn and text-based architectural study of the Kwun Tong Garden Estate, one of Hong Kong’s public housing developments. Built in the late 1960s, the estate reflects a distinct architectural character shaped by modernist ideals and the social ambitions of post-war urban planning.

Commissioned as a community documentation initiative, the project captures key spatial elements, façade compositions, and human-scaled design strategies through detailed architectural sketches and reflective writing. The use of hand drawing not only pays homage to traditional architectural representation but also encourages a more intimate reading of everyday built environments.

This visual archive contributes to the academic and public discourse on Hong Kong’s public housing legacy, highlighting the cultural and architectural value embedded in these often-overlooked structures. It is both a tribute to the estate’s historical significance and a tool for preserving collective memory through design research.
